Professor Emerita, Theatre Historian
Widowed
Living in an old New England farmhouse, retired from thirty-five years working as a university professor of drama and theatre (though still teaching an occasional course here and there); working on a new book--previous ones include Lady Macbeth in America (2010), George Sand's Gabriel (1992), and George Sand's Theatre Career (1985)--and traveling!--sort of a "merry widow", I guess.
Remembering East High friends with fondness, and reflecting on how great an education we all got from the likes of Mrs. Whitcomb and of course Miss Bowman! Little did I know that their teaching and my experience working on the Assembly Committee would lead to a career in theatre history, directing and dramaturging! Salt Lake City proved a great place for the arts, languages, and growing up!--even for a gentile like me. |

After graduation from East High, I attended the University of Utah and worked part time for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I was offered a job there as one of the secretaries to the Young Women's General Pres., so I quit school at that time and took the job. I had intended to go back and finish someday, but never did. |

It's been an interesting and challenging 50 years. There are a lot of things I would have done differently. |

I hope I am not the classmate you have all forgotten. I was born in Cedar City, Utah and spent many wonderful summers as a child at Cove Fort, which my grandfather owned. It was in the Kesler family for 80 years. We moved to SLC in 1949. Our home was on Laird Ave and we attended the Garden Park Ward, which I loved. I attended Emerson Elementary and Roosevelt Jr High and East High. On October 8, 1960, our Junior year, I married my sweetheart, James R. Wade. And guess what? 52 years later.we are stll MARRIED! (I think I hold the record for our class.) He had been drafted into the Army and we were stationed at Fort Lewis for 2 years during the Berlin Crisis. We came back to SLC in 1962 and bought a home that we still occupy. We have traveled a lot and seen many different cultures such as Asia, South America, Europe, Greece to name a few. I love my dear family, my special friends and my little dogs. Hope to see you all at the reunion. "THEN" photo was taken in November of 1960. |
