I hope no one minds that I have gone into some classmates' entries and made a few style changes so that every entry is similar. I have not changed a single word in anyone's entry. Just my graphic design obsessiveness that takes hold of me.

After graduating from East, I attended BYU (Go Cougars!) where I sang with Women's Chorus for three years. Upon marrying Bob Anderson, a California boy, on May 28, 1965, my adventures began. We have been blessed with eight wonderful children, four boys and four girls, and twenty-five beautiful and brilliant grandchildren. My family has been my greatest blessing. We have lived in Provo, Salt Lake, Riverside, California, St. Louis, Missouri, and ended up in Turlock, California for 34 years where my husband was a Spanish professor at California State University Stanislaus. I worked for several years teaching disabled adults through Modesto Jr. College and United Cerebral Palsy. We moved to Cedar Hills, Utah in 2002 after we retired. We have been able to travel throughout the world: North America, Europe, Scandinavia, Central America, South America, Northern Africa, and Asia. Some of the highlights include living in Madrid, Spain for 2 years and Mexico for eight months as a result of my husband's work. From September 2006 to August 2007 we had an opportunity to teach English in China for a year through the BYU China Teacher Program . In addition, we recently returned from an 18 month mission to Guatemala, the most life changing experience that I have ever had. I enjoy traveling, teaching, reading, riding ATV's, fishing, attending BYU basketball and football games, and doing genealogy. Life has been good.

Unfortunately I was unable to attend the 60 year reunion but I was able to view the internet feed, which I enjoyed. The years that have passed since my graduation From East in 1962 have been filled for the most part with Joy and professional accomplishment.  The highlight of my life was my marriage to Mary Hanson and the blessing of two sons, Tom and Lukas.

After obtaining a BA degree in chemistry and a PhD in organic chemistry with specialization in natural products at the University of Utah and two years of postdoctoral research, I joined my soon-to-be wife, Mary, in Malaysia in the Peace Corps in 1974. We were married and spent a year at the National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kabangsaang) followed by almost four years at the University of Chile, where we remained until 1979. I conducted research on Antarctic Krill and Mary was involved with hematological research. When we returned to Utah, I took a position as a Research Assistant Professor in the College of Pharmacy, University of Utah for two years.

I started ChemBiochem Research, Inc. with two other partners in 1981.  CBR Inc. was the love of my professional life until we sold the company in 1995.  For the next several years I was engaged in pharmaceutical research with a number of companies, which culminated in my retirement in 2013 from Actavis/Allergan Pharmaceutical as Director of Analytical Research and Special Projects (originally Watson Pharmaceutical).

Since retirement I have traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada in a travel van and spent several summers in Alaska, one of the most beautiful places on earth (a close second to southern Chile). I love classical guitar music and played most of my life, but I can no longer play due to arthritis in my hands. I have instead become a collector and have a modest collection of unique classical guitars.   I love hiking and spend a great deal of time in the outdoors. I still downhill and backcountry ski, which affords me lots to do during the winter months. I hope to continue loving life for many more years and look forward to future reunions.

Right after graduation from East High School, I took a job with a small bank in Poughkeepsie.  Following that job I spent 27 months on a proselyting mission to Central America.  One year later I married Marilyn Estella Gardner, and began completing my undergraduate degree at the U of U.  A job followed with the Juvenile Court System which gave me a lot of satisfaction.  I retired from the Court.

We have lived in only four homes between Kaysville and West Jordan but we can call West Jordan our final home as we have been here for 39 years.

We have two boys and two girls of which we are very proud.  All of our children are married, three with children of their own.  One is a civil engineer, one a doctor of chiropractic, one holds a MBA and is a consultant in human resources and one a businesswoman  but  whose main work is raising her large brood.

Our early retirement has brought many opportunities of which the most important was having the time and capacity to care for three of our aged parents until their deaths.

I have also had many opportunities to serve in our Church and see it as a great blessing.  Though we enjoy many hobbies, our fondest is travelling between states to visit our children(really our grandchildren).  So far my health is excellent, only my adventures could interrupt that.

After graduating from East, I attended the University of Utah, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Education. That was followed by a Master of Arts degree from the University of Oregon at Eugene. I returned to Salt Lake to teach English at Clayton Jr. High.
I married a wonderful man, we had three children, and life was good. He died suddenly from a heart condition at the age of 48. Two years later I met a widower with two children. Five children and a new marriage was very interesting, but we all survived. Three children are married now, and we are the proud grandparents of four little girls.
Besides my family, I have enjoyed several avocations. For many years I helped rehabilitate birds of prey for the state and federal government. My children grew up thinking everyone had hawks, owls and falcons living in various rooms of the house. Only once did a Great Horned Owl get loose in the living room during the night.
I also spent many years as a Docent at Hogle Zoo, then was privileged to serve on the Board of Directors. A highlight at the zoo was serving as one of the nannies for the baby organutan, Acara, born in 2005. I saw several East High grads come through the Great Apes building with their grandkids. I was the one behind the glass dressed in a mask and gown.
The updates posted by the Class of 1962 are wonderful. What a great group of people!! (Of course!)
Good luck to all of us in the years to come.

I have been busy leading out in our efforts to find classmates. It has been very rewarding. I hope we can be in touch with as many classmates as possible and that most will try to join us for our 60th reunion.

Lynn and I served an 18-month LDS mission in Chorley, England until May 2016. Lynn was a Preston Temple ordinance missionary and I served in the European Area Legal Counsel office as an associate area counsel missionary. We loved England because so many of our ancestors originated there. We were able to visit many of the towns and cities they left to come to America. Lynn's third-great grandfather was Heber C. Kimball. The Preston area is the location where he started the first overseas LDS missionary work in 1837, so there were plenty of historical places to visit in connection with his work there. Seven of our nine children were able to visit us there.

Following graduation from East, I attended Harvard University graduating there in 1969 in German Language and Literature. I served an LDS mission in the South German Mission. I married Carolyn Furner and we had six children. We lived in Germany for a Junior Year abroad in Freiburg for one school year. After law school at the University of Utah, I worked with my father, brother and uncle for a short time before joining the faculty at the newly established law school at BYU. I am retired in 2014 after completing my 40th year there teaching and writing primarily in the property law area. I am proud of an extensive internship program I have established for our students. Recently, I have worked closely with classmate Rod Snow in establishing a mentoring program for new lawyers and a statewide Commission for Pro Bono services by lawyers.

Our family moved to Frankfurt, Germany in the early 1980s where I served as European area legal counsel for the LDS Church for 2 1/2 years.

I went through a lonely year and a divorce in 2001. I was fortunate to remarry our classmate Lynn Kimball, whose husband (Brent Jones) passed away a few years before. We met again on the 40th reunion planning committee. We enjoy our 32 grandchildren and two great granddaughters through our 9 children. We often travel to visit our children in Arizona, California, Europe, the Maldives and Africa. We have now been married 20 years this past December 2021.

Life is good and we feel greatly blessed. Many of our closest friendships have continued over the years since our years together at East.

The day after graduation I went to Jackson Hole and worked for the summer as a waitress. I went to the University of Utah and had a great time. I was a cheerleader for two years and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. I worked three nights a week as I waitressed at the Balsom Embers all through school. Each summer I went someplace different to work. I worked in Hawaii for two summers as a waitress and after graduation I worked on Martha's Vineyard before going to Europe with my East High girlfriends. We had a blast driving around in our $400 Opal Sadan. It made it for the three months that we traveled.

When I returned I married Brent Jones who was a year ahead of us at East. In 1972 we moved to Kansas City and raised our three children there for 18 years, then moved to Des Moines, Iowa for 10 years.

I was a Graphic Designer all those years and had my own business. When we moved to Iowa I went to work for Meredith Corporation. It was my dream job. I designed Direct Mail promoting Better Homes and Gardens and 17 other national magaziners and when I returned to Salt Lake I became self employed again and built up a successful base of clients.

When we returned to Salt Lake in 1997 and were thrilled to be home. Unfortunately Brent died in January of 1999. I figured I would travel from one child to the next for the remainder of my life. Then one day Jim Backman called and asked me out. We will have been married 10 years this December. Life is sooo good. We travel a lot, golf, travel from one child to the next and enjoy our condo in Midway and our 25 grandchildren. You just never know what life will bring.
